Wasteland Warriors
Digital Illustration
Two survivors of the wasteland, loosely inspired by the imagery in the Mad Max series. I created this art print not just as a creative endeavor, but also as a chance to experiment with a new process for creating colorful risograph prints. Riso uses soy-based inks that layer translucently over each other, allowing the creation of a range of blended shades. However, translating full-color images to limited color riso prints can sometimes lead to a faded or murky appearance. To maximize the potential of this printing method, I had to find a way to ensure that the vibrancy of the image on my computer screen was as close to the final product as possible.

To capture the sun-warmed atmosphere I envisioned, I selected three risograph ink colors: Hunter green, Sunflower gold, and Coral pink. Creating gradients to mock-up the appearance of overlapping translucent inks, I painted the image in Clip Studio Pro using these blended colors to ensure that the artwork would be within the gamut of what this color combination could do.

After finishing the image, I used Spectrolite, a color separation tool, to prepare for printing. From left to right are the master images for Hunter, Sunflower, and Coral.
